2026 Phillies Preseason Top 30 Prospects - Honerable Mentions

As the 2026 Phillies season gets started, so too do the seasons of the team’s affiliates. Following an interesting past 12 months that have seen several quality prospects traded away, but several more added in the draft, the system looks a lot different, even at the top, where there’s been some noteworthy movement. This year, I’d like to break down my list a little differently. First, let’s start with the subtractions from the list:

3. Mick Abel

5. Eduardo Tait

8. Otto Kemp

10. Hendry Mendez

14. Eiberson Castellano

24. Jaydenn Estanista

26. Avery Owusu-Asiedu

27. Carson Taylor

28. John Spikerman

30. Juan Amarante

Abel, Tait, and Mendez were all dealt to the Twins at the 2025 trade deadline. Abel ended up exceeding rookie limits last year, though Tait and Mendez would still be top 10 prospects on this team were they still in the system. Kemp was the lone member of the mid-season 30 who left the list by graduating. Castellano became a free agent and signed with the Rockies in the offseason, though a rough 2025 season would have dinged him anyway. Avery Owusu-Asiedu would have likely risen in the rankings had he not been dealt to the Diamondbacks for Kyle Backhus in the offseason. Taylor would have again been a fringe-30 candidate this year had he not been a Minor League Rule Five Draft selection by the Mariners. Each of Estanista, Spikerman, and Amarante all fell out of the top 30 but remain in the system. Additionally, Zach McCambley would have made my list had he stuck with the team as a Rule Five selection, but he didn’t, so he isn’t. He would have been somewhere in the 20s on this year’s list.

Next, let’s talk honorable mentions. 5 members of the 2025 draft made my list - 5 names I’ve seen other lists that did not were Gabe Crag, Matthew Ferrara, James Tallon, Brian Walters, and Logan Dawson. These guys don’t have the combo of ceiling, floor, and proximity to the Majors to crack the top 30 right now. Same goes for Juan Parra and Romeli Espinosa, who both have high ceilings, but are even more green than the aforementioned contingent. Kehden Hettiger (who’s probably the first guy out of my top 30) and Alirio Ferrebus have the benefit of being catchers, but neither has a developed enough bat or fielding tool to make me confident right now that either is likely to be an impact player in the Majors. Guys like Dylan Campbell and Bryan Rincon are viewed highly in the organization for their defense, but both haven’t hit much in the pros. Saul Teran, Jack Dallas, and the aforementioned Jaydenn Estanista are fringe-30 guys who could sneak onto or back onto the list, but just sit outside right now. Casey Steward has great stuff, but a disastrous 2025 dinged his prospect hype; similar goes for Brad Pacheco. Zuher Yousuf and Angel Liranzo are interesting low Minors arms, but don’t have the dynamic arsenals to crack this list yet. Guys like Luke Russo and Reese Dutton have held their own in the low-mid Minors, but don’t have carrying skills. Christian McGowan and Griff McGarry still exist, but it feels like either actually having a season to get excited about at this point is wishful thinking. And there’s Felix Reyes, who, truthfully, I just need to see more of to have ranked.

While this collection of prospects likely won’t amount to much, several are MLB-adjacent, which always boosts the likelihood of making the jump. Many of these names are also very young, so they have time to develop. Don’t be shocked if a few of these guys end up cracking the top 30 by mid-season, especially with some graduations from the current top-30 being inevitable.

2024 Phillies Prospect Rankings - AAA and MLB

We're back at it again with raking the Phillies prospects, starting with the top 2 levels this year. The Phillies have only 3 prospects with MLB action from last year:

Orion Kerkering
Wes Wilson
Cal Stevenson

Orion Kerkering and Wes Wilson should both have an impact on the MLB roster this season, particularly the precocious Kerkering. Cal Stevenson was a waiver claim last year that stuck around at AAA from the end of last year. He could perhaps see action with a hot start at AAA, which he's done as recently as 2022.

At the AAA level, there are many new names joining guys with past experience in the system, continuing to show the changing environment of the system.

Mick Abel
Christian McGowan
Simón Muzziotti
Matt Kroon
Brett Schulze
Griff McGarry
Nicklaus Snyder
Michael Mercado
Zac Houston
Tyler McKay
Taylor Lehman
Nick Podkul

Mick Abel is naturally the #1 here, and may already have the inside track on being the next man up in the rotation for the Phillies after a strong Spring. Should his control continue to be improved, he could be an impact player for the Phillies this season. Christian McGowan is one of the sneakier names that could have a big impact on the team this year after a strong run last season coming back from Tommy John Surgery. Matt Kroon could be the 2024 version of 2022 Dalton Guthrie and 2023 Wes Wilson following another strong season in the high Minors. He can move around and could end up being a useful bench piece down the stretch. Schulze, Snyder, Mercado, and Houston are lottery ticket high-leverage arms that could use some tweaks, and could be risers in the system this year. Griff McGarry is a wildcard after changing his mechanics in the offseason. Finally, keep an eye on Nick Podkul, who had a breakout in an abridged 2023.

2022 Phillies Mid-Season Prospect Rankings - AA

Known for its legendary offensive environment, FirstEnergy Stadium kn Reading can help create some amazing offensive seasons that can springboard prospects to the Majors, while creating the first Major roadblock in a pitcher's development. Many prospects have found these things out this season, and it's part of why Reading has scuffled most of the season. But how about their top prospects? Here were the top 15 at the All-Star Break.

Logan O’Hoppe
Erik Miller
Billy Sullivan IV
Noah Skirrow
Griff McGarry
Johan Rojas
Braden Zarbnisky
Matt Seelinger
Jhailyn Ortiz
Trevor Bettencourt
Brian Marconi
Ethan Lindow
McKinley Moore
Blake Brown*
Josh Hendrickson

Logan O'Hoppe remains a standout at the levels at which he has played. He's pushed further into the game's top catching prospect charts with an excellent season at Reading. Miller has continued his strong production as a professional while being limited in his innings. Sullivan continues to impress out of the back of Reading's bullpen and could be due for AAA soon. Skirrow has shown better results at AA this season along with increased strikeout propensity. McGarry continues his rise, while Rojas's early success at the level helped him with an aggressive ranking here. Better AA numbers this season have helped Ortiz. Look out for Bettencourt, Brown, and Hendrickson as guys who can rise back up the rankings if they can stay healthy.

2022 Phillies Prospect Rankings - A+

Many of the best prospects in the Phillies system started 2021 at the A+ level, such as Bryson Stott and Logan O'Hoppe. However, few ended there. the A+ list is one of the weakest lists in the Phillies system, but there are certainly some prospects worth noting. Here they are.

Erik Miller
Griff McGarry
Johan Rojas
Albertus Barber*
D.J. Stewart
J.P. Woodward
Manuel Silva
Gabriel Yanez
Victor Lopez
Nicolas Torres
Luis Garcia
Casey Martin
Carlos Francisco
McKinley Moore
Ben Brown
Dominic Pipkin
Bubby Rossman*

Yeah, that's the whole list. It certainly has a few surprises. Most would probably rank Johan Rojas and Luis Garcia higher. That said, I feel neither has really come into their own as hitters yet, so I remain a bit skeptical. Miller was probably ticketed for AA even just to start off 2021 if he was healthy, but he ultimately was not. He only managed 12.2 innings of work last season and only played one A+ game. That said, his numbers were still strong, as he lowered his career Minors ERA to 1.48 and finished the season with a 12.6 K/9 on the Farms. He may be a reliever going forward, but he certainly has upside. Barber missed all of 2021 with an injury, but he impressed as a UDFA in 2019 out of the bullpen. Rounding out the top five is Stewart, a former 39th round high school pick who came into his own last season as a potential infield power threat.

Beyond this group is a slew of mostly relievers, underpreforming starters, but also a few others Nicolas Torres, in the tenth spot, impressed at 21 after a promotion to A+. If we see more of the same in 2021 then he may get a boost in the rankings. Martin was the club's second pick in 2020, but fizzled after a promotion to Lakewood early in the season and failed to re-establish himself after being sent back down to Clearwater thereafter. This is a big season for him. Moore and Rossman, meanwhile, are newcomers. The former was just picked up in return for Adam Haseley, but has yet to really establish himself as a professional. The later, meanwhile, is that type of independent ball signing teams quite like - a high strikeout guy who they can hope they can mold into a dynamic reliever. Don't expect either to become a great player, but it's worth knowing these names just in case they do.
